Volunteer Awards For Exceptional Service

By: Audrey Matheson

On the first weekend in November, Fairview Historical archivist, Wayne Kelly, was presented a plaque by the Ladies Auxiliary for his outstanding volunteer work with the Fairview Legion. Wayne, a true Fairview boy, was born and raised on Frederick Ave and is proud to still call Fairview home.

Wayne has been volunteering at the Fairview Legion for 27 plus years and has held the positions of Building Chairman, Hall Chairman and Poppy Chairman. It is his work with the Poppy Campaign that he is most passionate about. Congratulations Wayne on your well earned recognition

Legionnaire of the Year Award

The awards keep coming for our Fairview Historical Society archivist, Wayne Kelly. A week ago Wayne was presented with the Bonnie Gorman Legionnaire of the Year Award. This award, named after a gracious lady and former outstanding volunteer at the Fairview Legion is given to a person who excels in volunteerism. Wayne is truly a worthy recipient and not only organizes and runs the Poppy Campaign but helps out with the Flea Market, helps the bartenders, helps the Ladies Auxiliary, decorates the Legion, loads and unloads things when needed, acts as doorman for events and takes the Christmas tree down from the attic. As one legion member told me, ” Wayne will always help out whenever he is asked; no job is too big or too small; he will always do it.”
Congratulations Wayne; well deserved!
